THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA: FORMAL ANALYSIS OF THE ANDROCENTRIC BIAS IN SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE ON PREHISTORIC FISHING ON THE ATACAMA DESERT COAST

Archaeology uses different methods of analysis for building interpretations based on pieces of evidence. However, as in other areas of science, researchers are also influenced by precepts and stereotypes linked with their socio-historical context. The exercise of questioning and reformulation does not only contemplate its empirical sphere, but also its discursive dimension. The present work is a theoretical-methodological proposal for studying social representations in the current archaeological discourse, taking as a case study the prehistoric fishing on the coast of the Atacama Desert. Using quantitative and qualitative content analysis in specialized literature, we aim to identify the elements associated with androcentrism in their narratives. We aim to contribute at a local level and on a broader scale, providing tools that allow a deep approach to social imaginaries about the past.
