ARTEFACTOS CULTURALES E IDENTIDADES: ANÁLISIS DE LA NAGUA CHAMULA Y EL CHUMBE INGA

Giovanna María Aldana Barahona and Ambar Varela Mattute

This article presents the findings of a comparative ethnographic study, which analyzes how two garments that are part of the clothing of Indigenous groups, the Inga chumbe and the Chamula nagua, are characterized as cultural artifacts and thus contain aspects of the identity of the groups that made them. Using qualitative methodology, our research is based on observations made by the authors during their coexistence with the Chamula and Inga communities. We conducted semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentary analysis during the fieldwork. This proposal allows for a detailed analysis of Indigenous garments and textiles to encompass the multiple meanings that they contain, concerning identity and culture.
